MEGAPHONICS
|
Megaphonics is a series of interventions in public spaces in Tokyo where Japanese-speakers use megaphones to recite a collection of lyrics from Latin-American romantic songs known as “Boleros”. The words are not translated, but phonetically transcribed from Spanish into Japanese using Katakana. What is uttered through the amplifiers is hence a phonic interpretation deprived of meaning. Notwithstanding the confusion, these puzzling echoes aim to alter the sonic landscape in the city. |
